Contractor Opportunity – Xero Consulting & Automation

Living Business is growing, and we’re looking to work with people who enjoy improving how businesses work using numbers, systems, and practical problem‑solving.
We’re open to different strengths, and have two distinct but related capability areas. You don’t need to do both.
What matters most across all work is solid Xero knowledge, comfort with numbers, and an ability to understand real‑world business constraints.
The Common Foundation
All work we do is grounded in:
- Strong, practical Xero knowledge (not just theory)
- Confidence working with numbers, reports, and financial flows
- Process thinking — understanding what’s really happening before proposing changes
- Respect for client realities: timeframes, priorities, skills, and capacity
- Clear, calm communication with non‑technical business owners
From there, we currently work across two capability streams.
Capability Stream 1: WorkflowMAX / Job Management Consulting
This stream suits someone who enjoys client‑facing systems consulting and translating messy business reality into workable processes.
Typical work includes:
- Helping clients set up, troubleshoot, and optimise WorkflowMAX as a job management system
- Improving how WorkflowMAX and Xero work together (coding, invoicing, reporting, cost handling)
- Advising on job structure, billing approaches, and reporting that actually supports decision‑making
- Working with clients who are stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure what to fix next
You don’t need to know everything on day one — but you do need to enjoy listening, diagnosing, and guiding clients toward practical outcomes.
Capability Stream 2: Numbers‑Based Automation & AI‑Assisted Tools
This stream suits someone more tech‑curious and process‑focused, who enjoys removing repetitive, error‑prone admin.
This work is not about hype or flashy AI — it’s about building useful, repeatable solutions.
Examples of the kind of problems we want to solve:
- Turning messy exports into clean, import‑ready files automatically
- Building repeatable spreadsheet transformations (e.g. Power Query) that run in one click
- Reducing manual rework and double‑handling between Xero and connected systems
- Using AI tools (e.g. Copilot / Claude‑style) as a thinking and build partner — drafting logic, troubleshooting, refining workflows — while the final solution remains rules‑based and reliable
Strong Xero and data/process thinking are required.
Learning & Development (important)
You must be willing to undertake ongoing self‑development, largely self‑funded.
In return, you’ll be well supported, given increasing responsibility, and trusted with meaningful work as your capability grows.
